PieEye supports Google's Consent Mode, which is an API developed by Google. It allows website owners and developers to integrate Google tags in line with user consent preferences. This ensures a balance between respecting user consent for cookies and tracking while still effectively measuring conversions. Here's a brief overview of the five consent types supported by Consent Mode:

  1. Advertisement: This pertains to consent for tracking and using cookies for personalized advertising. If a user denies consent for advertisement cookies, the website should refrain from using them for personalized ads.
  2. Analytics: Analytics cookies collect data on user behavior and website performance. Denying consent for analytics cookies means the website will not use them, and it may provide aggregate-level analytics data instead.
  3. Functional: Functional cookies are essential for basic website functionality. Denying consent for functional cookies may impact the core features of the site.
  4. Personalization: Personalization cookies customize user experiences by offering personalized content or recommendations. Denying consent for personalization cookies may limit these features.
  5. Security: Security cookies are vital for website and user security. They are typically not affected by user consent preferences, as they are crucial for protecting the site.

PieEye Consent Mode maps all Google consent types into 5 categories:

Consent Type PieEye Consent Type Description
ad_storage Targeting/Advertising To enable advertisement cookies.
analytics_storage Performance To enable analytics cookies.
functionality_storage Functionality To enable functional cookies for website functionality and settings.
personalization_storage Preferences To enable personalization cookies
security_storage Necessary To enable necessary cookies for website security and protection, user UI preferences, etc. Such cookies do not require consent.
ad_user_data Targeting/Advertising To enable advertisement cookies to set consent for sending personal data to Google core platform service.
ad_personalization Targeting/Advertising To enable advertisement cookies to use data for ad personalization such as remarketing.

The Consent Mode, when used with Google Tag Manager (GTM) or the global site tag, allows website owners to configure how these tags behave based on the user's consent preferences for each of these consent types. This ensures that websites can still track and measure conversions while respecting user privacy and consent choices. For example, if a user denies consent for analytics cookies, the website can adapt its tracking behavior to comply with the user's choice and send aggregated data instead of individual user-level data.

PieEye Consent Mode Integration

When utilizing Consent Mode with PieEye, each time a website user provides their consent preferences, PieEye will transmit a signal to Google, which will then adjust the tag's behavior by the user's choice. This adjustment ensures that the website refrains from collecting or using personally identifiable information and instead opts for aggregated data for its services.

Below are the step-by-step procedures to implement the Google Tag Manager template.
